Speak to our travel experts today if you are unsure if you require a rabies vaccination for your destination. We are here to support all of your medical travel needs.
Vaccination against rabies is advised if you're travelling to an area where you could get rabies, particularly if:
- You're staying for a month or more
- There's unlikely to be quick access to appropriate medical care
- You plan to do activities that could put you at increased risk of exposure to rabies, such as cycling or running.
Rabies
£60 per dose
3 dose(s) required
The first dose should be given at least 5 weeks before travelling.
The vaccine will protect you for 10 years. However, more frequent doses may be required for anyone working with animals.
Three doses.
The vaccine is usually given as an injection in your upper arm.
Serious side effects from the rabies vaccine are rare. Common side effects include soreness at the injection site, rash, high temperature, nausea and pain.
The vaccine can be given from birth.
In addition to getting vaccinated you need to practise bite avoidance and avoid touching animals abroad. If you do get bitten, or scratched, you need to wash the wound firstly and seek medical attention.
Rabies is fatal and there is no cure for it.
