Hepatitis B is a liver infection that is spread through blood, semen and vaginal fluids. The chance of getting it in the UK is low. There's a vaccine if you're at high risk or travelling to a country where it's more common. The risk of getting hepatitis B is higher in some parts of the world, including:
- Africa
- Asia
- the Middle East
- parts of South America and eastern Europe

If you are travelling and would like the vaccine done, please leave at least 4 weeks before starting the course. the course is available to be given as an accelerated schedule of 0,7 and 21 days doses.
Once vaccinated, you will not require a booster dose until 5 years. However in certain circumstances or when immunity levels are not sufficient a further booster dose may be required earlier.

The vaccine is given as an injection in the upper arm.
Common side effects include soreness at the injection site, fever, tiredness and soreness.
The vaccine is suitable from birth.
Can cause flu like symptoms to jaundice. It can lead to liver failure.
